An empty York bar has been transformed into a unique pop-up shop.
The Blueberry Academy has opened its gift shop in the former Society Bar on Rougier Street.
Selling gifts, furniture, jewellery, artwork, cards and more, many of the items are upcycled from unwanted items or materials.
Shop manager Angela Taylor told YorkMix: “Blueberry Pop Up Shop is a retail and crafts training shop for people with learning differences and disabilities.
“We have 21 one-day-a-week placements to build peoples work skills and confidence, and all of our products are created by people with additional needs.”
The academy has been managing innovative shops across the city since 2013, most recently at 19 Micklegate.
That is about to become a new permanent shop, hence the move to the Society Bar.
“The owners have kindly allowed us to use the space rent free whilst empty, as it is due to be part of the exciting North Star development of the area into a Roman Quarter,” Angela said.
The shop is open 10am-3pm, Monday to Saturday. “Every customer adds value to our trainees retail training, giving them the opportunity to develop customer service skills, so we hope to see lots of customers at our new venue,” she said.
