If you like a bit of drama, and a drink or two, you’re in luck. York-based company Hedgepig Theatre is on another tour of city pubs and they have dark and mysterious tales to tell.

Double Barrel 2 – Master Misery & Trial for Murder is adapted and directed by YorkMix theatre blogger and Hedgepig co-founder Andy Curry.

The actors take a normal pub room and fill it with stories, ghosts, adventures and imagination. This production includes two brand new dark tales, performed by actors and adapted to the unique details of the space they happen to be in.

“We’ve taken two short stories, by Truman Capote and Charles Dickens respectively, and adapted them for performance in pub rooms,” Andy explained. “Our cast perform each piece in and around – and often with – the pub audience, creating a magical, creepy and delightfully entertaining evening.

“We’ve a fantastic cast including our very own Gemma Sharp, Six Lip’s Roxanna Klimaszewska, Andy Love and Bill Laughey.”

Master Misery is the Truman Capote tale, about a sinister doctor who steals your dreams. The Charles Dickens’ story is Trial for Murder, which sees a ghostly 13th juror manipulating his own trial.

The spooky goings-on start at Thomas’s Pub on Museum Street and travels to three more York pubs in the course of a week.

The original Double Barrel pub tour was critically acclaimed, with The Yorker calling it “local theatre at its very best… wonderfully entertaining”.

Double Barrel 2 is free – no tickets needed – just show up at your pub of choice. Rooms will be open from 7.30pm with the first performance beginning at 8pm. Entry is first come first served.
