A York city centre bakery plans to double in size by moving into the empty shop next door.
Cornish Bakery has plans in to take over the former Krispy Kreme shop on Coney Street.
It has been vacant since the brand moved out last February.
Cornish Bakery, which serves up a range of sweet and savoury snacks including croissants, tortillas, scones and Cornish pastries, is in the midst of a retail expansion programme.
Planning documents lodged with City of York Council state: “Cornish Bakery are in discussion with the landlord to secure the lease of No.4 Coney Street in order to expand the offer and footprint of their existing store operating out of No.6 Coney Street.
“In doing so they are proposing to replace the existing shopfront to No.4 Coney Street to allow for more operational and customer circulation and create one visually holistic shopfront across the two units.”
They plan to create an internal opening between the two shops, and use number 4 for customer seating.
“We believe that the shopfront proposal will serve to enhance the overall stature of the building along with the local ‘streetscape’,” a design statement says.
“The shopfront design and finishes are sensitive to the conservation area status and surrounding listed buildings.”
