The chief executive of City of York Council remains off work and there’s no date set for her return.
Now the authority has been asked to approve continued contingency measures to cover her absence, at a cost of at least £3,000 a month.
YorkMix revealed that council chief executive Mary Weastell was signed off from work last summer.
She hadn’t been at her desk in the council’s West Offices HQ since the beginning of June.
A report to the staffing matters & urgency committee on Monday (20 January) says: “There is currently no known end date for the absence.”

Options open
The cost of him covering the role, and of another senior officer taking on extra duties, is £3,098 per month.
That would mean the continuing absence of the chief executive has cost more than £21K so far.
Councillors are recommended that this arrangement continues. Alternatively they could
- create an assistant director for finance, at a cost of £3,392 per month
- or appoint an interim chief executive at a cost of £1,000 per day.
The staffing matters & urgency committee meeting is 5.30pm on Monday, 20 January at West Offices.
