Plans are in to turn a York shop into a bar specialising in craft beer.

The proposal is for 42 Broadway in York, which is currently home to Lodge Cottage Farm Shop.

It would change from a shop to a “drinking establishment and retail sale of alcohol to take away.

“The establishment will be focused on craft beer and including the sale of other alcohol.”

The application is from Katie Speed from Fulford, and her company Brewhemian Hopsody Ltd.

It says the Lodge Cottage Farm Shop is due to vacate the premises on the 1 April 2025.

In a letter, Mrs Speed says: “This proposed use aligns with the character of the local area and will contribute positively by contributing to the area’s economic growth, job creation and improved local services.

“I have proactively liaised with the City of York Council and North Yorkshire Police Licensing teams, who are aware of the proposed venue and for the future full premises licence application.”

She said closing time would be no later than 11pm.

Plans show a bar seating area and shop, and a beer garden. A 6ft fence would be built around the beer garden “for privacy purposes of our neighbours.

“This will also mitigate any impact of low mood lighting from safety purposes in the garden.”

The beer garden would also close at 9.30pm.

Lodge Farm Cottage Shop opened on Broadway in October 2023. It sells fresh fruit, vegetables, meats, pies, dairy, bread and eggs. It also has an outlet in Naburn.

Before that, the premises was a gift shop, Lots Of Love.

Last June, Number 42 Broadway won planning permission to create a café in an extension at the back.
