A women’s clothing store has reopened in York city centre following a sudden closure earlier this month.
Jigsaw, on Stonegate, was seized on Monday 11 August after a visit from bailiffs.
The store reopened yesterday, nine days after the closure, in what the business has described as a “misunderstanding.”
The Grade II* listed building, which dates back to the 1700s, has been home to York’s Jigsaw branch for many years.
On the day of the temporary closure, enforcement notices were placed outside 37 Stonegate, stating the property had been seized by an officer working for enforcement agents Penham Excel, acting on behalf of the landlords.
The notice read: “Any attempt by you or your agents to enter the premises will result in criminal / civil proceedings being taken against you.
“As the former tenant of this property you are required under Section 12 of the Torts Act 1977 to arrange with your landlord collection of your goods from these premises.
“If you do not arrange collection of said goods within 14 DAYS of this notice the goods will be removed and sold as necessary.”
The order was directed at Robinson Webster (Holdings) Limited, the parent company of Jigsaw.
Fans of the fashion brand will be pleased to know the York store is once again open and trading as normal.
