A York fitness centre was evacuated today due to a gas leak.
Acomb and Tadcaster fire crews responded to a gas alarm from York Sport Village, in Heslington at around 3.15pm.
This was caused by a chlorine leak.
A North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: “Crews entered the building wearing gas tight suits using a gas detector to locate and isolate the leak.”
The sports centre closed for the remainder of the day.
The team released a statement to their Facebook page that read: “Due to an emergency alarm at York Sport Village, all members, staff, and customers have been safely evacuated.
“Regular opening hours will resume from tomorrow.”
