A group of friends from York are setting out to cycle coast to coast in support of men’s mental health – and are aiming to raise £10,000.
Organised by Mason Hughes and Bradley Mulhearn, who work at the bike shop Recycle York on Walmgate, the plan is to cycle from Tynemouth to Whitehaven in under 36 hours.
And to make things harder, Mason and Brad will be riding a tandem bike! The aim of the challenge is to raise money for the men’s mental health charity York Menfulness.
“I have been through some tough times in the past and always had such good support throughout,” Mason told YorkMix.
“That is why I decided to do this for York Menfulness – they run solely on volunteers and do an amazing job to support the community.”
The bike ride will commence on Monday 8 July 2024.
The distance is around 170 miles. They chose a 36 hour time frame in the hope that as many people as possible can join them on the ride.
“So far I have between 5-10 people who would like to join the ride, and I am hoping more would like to join.”
They have set up a JustGiving page for the challenge, with the aim to raise £10,000 for Menfulness.

Good luck lads!
