A York garden centre has made a donation to a local nursery to help children learn about living things.
Dean’s Garden Centre gifted a selection of different plants to Montessori Nursery, in the hopes it will foster a love of gardening for the children.
Montessori Nursery recently opened in Osbaldwick, and “focuses on education that involves children’s natural interests”.
Soon Osbaldwick Montessori opened, manager Neil Collins got in touch with Dean’s Garden Centre.
He said: “One of the core principles of a Montessori nursery is to build better communities through having strong links with surrounding businesses and people.
“The nursery itself received a lot of generous support, resources and time from many local tradesmen to make it happen, and we’re delighted with the generous donation of plants from the team at Dean’s Garden Centre.
“The nursery encourages children to show love, care and respect for all living things, so Neil believes the plants will be a fantastic addition. “
Outdoor Manager at Dean’s York, Malcolm Storey, said the team were thrilled to support children’s learning through their donation.
He said: “We are a family-friendly, community-focused garden centre, and we’re delighted to help foster a love of gardening at an early age. We look forward to receiving Neil’s photos of how the plants are thriving.”
The donation is the latest in a series of community-minded gestures from the Stockton on the Forest garden centre.
They recently gifted a Christmas tree to a Haxby care home, supported the Yorkshire Children’s Charity and donated coats to Children in Need.
