Detectives have released CCTV images of a robbery suspect who targeted an off-licence in York.

The incident occurred at Millennium Food and Wine, on Bishopthorpe Road, at about 12.40pm on Monday 18 February 2013.

The images show the man as he entered the shop and when he threatened the female member of staff with a knife that he claimed was in a bag he was carrying.

He then hit her on the head with his hand and attempted to break into a till by throwing it on the floor.

He left the shop empty handed and made off on a mountain bike.

The woman suffered bruising to her head and was left very shaken. She was checked over by paramedics but she did not require hospital treatment.

While the suspect was able to cover his face throughout the incident, officers believe somebody will recognise the hooded royal blue rain jacket he was wearing which has a thick black stripe across the shoulders.

Acting Detective Inspector Fiona Wynne, of York CID, said: “The jacket is very recognisable and we believe that the images will help to jog people’s memory about possible sighting of the suspect before and after the incident.

“If anybody can actually identify the suspect or knows of his whereabouts, then please come forward to the police or Crimestoppers without delay.”

The suspect is described as white, slim build, about 5ft 6in tall, aged in his late teens, with distinctive pale blue eyes.

He was wearing a three-quarter length royal blue rain jacket that was elasticated around the waist and with a thick black stripe across the shoulders. It has a blue hood and high collar that he used to cover his face.

He was also wearing dark tracksuit bottoms, dark grey gloves and he was carrying dark JD sports drawstring bag with three white stripes on it.

He arrived and left on what appeared to be a mountain bike.

If you can help, please call North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2, and ask for York CID.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
