Could this be the UK’s best steak pie?
It is according to viral American food TikToker Kalani – who told his three million followers that the best steak pie he’s ever had is from right here in York.
On a recent trip to the city, the food reviewer and ghost hunter visited the Guy Fawkes Inn on High Petergate after recommendations from his viewers.
Upon trying the pub’s steak and ale pie, he described it as ‘life-changing’.
“If I wanted to change someone’s life in America with one dish from Britain, it would be this,” he said in the video posted to his TikTok and Instagram pages.
Kalani has a huge social media following across platforms like TikTok, Instagram and YouTube.
The part-time paranormal investigator and full-time food lover is currently travelling around the UK finding the best nosh in the country.
And he’s found one of the highlights in York!
Kalani described the Guy Fawkes pie as “incredible” and that the steak was “cooked perfectly.”
“I could eat this every day for the rest of my life,” he said.
As well as steak, the pie features pancetta, mushrooms, silverskin onions, and a rich beer gravy. Every Guy Fawkes Steak & Ale Pie (£22.50) is cooked to order, meaning there’s a 30 minute wait time – but according to Kalani, it’s definitely worth the wait.
But it’s not just the pie that received a helping of praise – the mash was also a highlight. “That might be some of the best mashed potatoes I’ve had in my entire life,” said Kalani. “Best mash I’ve had out of a restaurant in my life.”
He concluded the video with the highest of accolades. “I think this is the best steak pie I’ve had in the UK.
“This is a ten – I would not change a single thing about this pie. This is life-changing.”
