A York police officer has been hailed a hero after arresting two violent suspects wanted in connection with more than 40 offences.
The offences include burglary, possession of Class A drugs and theft of unattended motor vehicles.
A 19-year-old man and a 30-year-old man were taken into custody after both resisted arrest and assaulted the officer.
The incident happened on Wednesday (16 July) at around 9.10pm near the Punchbowl pub on Lowther Street, when officers were called to reports of men chasing another man across a rooftop.
Members of the public, who had reported a house burglary, initially detained the 19-year-old suspect.
When the officer arrived to make the arrest, the man resisted and tried to run away. He then proceeded to push the officer and hit her in the face.
Despite this, and with the help of a bystander, she successfully detained him and placed him in the police van.
Shortly after, the same officer spotted a 30-year-old man linked to the earlier incident and also wanted in connection with multiple offences.
He too resisted arrest and was violent towards the officer.
Despite being pushed, kneed, hit in the head and put into a headlock, the officer successfully detained the man while backup arrived at the scene.
In addition to the existing suspected offences, both men were further arrested for assaulting an emergency worker.
They remain in custody for questioning.
