A famous – and now rather controversial – name is to disappear from York Station.
The rebrand is set to see pub The Duke of York, in the station’s former ticket hall, renamed The Line and Whistle and new signage installed.
Operator SSP UK Ltd’s plans stated the renaming was part of a rebrand it was rolling out across its venues in stations.
Plans for the rebranding approved by City of York Council is set to see two non-illuminated cut out letter signs put up by the pub’s two entrances.
Two blackboard signs are also set to be installed along with new vinyl decals in the pub’s windows.

A green, black and gold colour scheme is proposed for the branding.
Interior refurbishments are set to include current ornaments replaced with reproductions of York-themed artwork and historic tourism and travel prints.
New fixtures and fittings are also set to be installed.
The Duke of York is the second of the company’s pubs to be rebranded as The Line and Whistle name, following the first in Crewe Station.

The York Station’s new look marks an end to 12 years of it operating as The Duke of York.
Its current signage was installed in 2013, with the pub called Coopers Bar before that.
