A York restaurant that started in Spark and now features on the Michelin Guide is celebrating its first year since its reopening.
Fish&Forest is celebrating a major milestone this month as it marks one year since reopening at its new home on Grape Lane.
From its beginnings in a shipping container at Spark York to its evolution into one of the city’s thriving independent restaurants, the award-winning restaurant is owned by chef and restaurateur Stephen Andrews.
On his first year, Stephen said: “A few broken ovens and a lot of laughs – we smashed our first year. It’s been incredible, and the support still blows my mind.
“When we moved into the old 1331 site last summer, I knew it was going to be special, but I didn’t expect all this.”
Since relocating from Micklegate in July 2024 to the former 1331 Bar & Grill – a site once owned by Stephen’s parents – Fish&Forest has gone from strength to strength.
In the last twelve months, Fish&Forest has retained its listing in the Michelin Guide, won the Taste Award at the Yorkshire Post Tourism Awards, and this year, chef-owner Stephen Andrews was also named one of the UK’s top 40 chefs as a semi-finalist in the prestigious National Chef of the Year 2025 competition – judged by some of the most respected figures in British gastronomy.
A new garden dining area is set to open at Fish&Forest this summer, offering guests an al fresco experience.
Fish&Forest is open Wednesday to Saturday for lunch (12–1:30pm) and dinner (5:30–9pm).
