A York school has been named as a Centre of Excellence for inclusion.
Knavesmire Primary School has also been awarded the Inclusion Quality Mark following a two-day assessment.
IQM assessors say in their report that the stand-out facility at Knavesmire Primary is the School House, where pupils with education, health and care plans (EHCPs) spend some of their school day.
They wrote: “The school leadership has been creative in educating pupils struggling with mainstream classes by establishing a teaching provision called the School House…
“The school and the trust recognise the uniqueness of every child and promote inclusion through their holistic approach.”
Knavesmire is the third school in South Bank Multi Academy Trust to receive the Inclusion Quality Mark, after Millthorpe and Woodthorpe Primary.
Adam Cooper, headteacher at Knavesmire Primary School, said: “I am thrilled that we have received the IQM Award and been recognised as a Centre of Excellence for inclusion.
“With the support of the trust, we’ve invested a great deal in our staff team in terms of development and learning, which means that they can better provide for our pupils.
“We’re very proud of our provision for all children, regardless of their circumstances and equally proud of the relationships we have built with parents, families and the community.”
