City of York Council’s library service has signed up to a national scheme to help library users and book lovers get even more out of the service.
The four offers around health, reading, information and digital have been developed by the Society, Arts Council England and The Reading Agency and show the public what they can expect from their library. It will also encourage libraries across the country to work together more closely.
Councillor Sonja Crisp, City of York Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism said: “Health, reading, information and digital services are the four offers and tie in with our existing priorities. This new scheme aims to clarify the sort of activities or events members of the public should be able to expect from their local library, and indeed already get from York’s nationally leading service which encompasses libraries and Explore centres.
“The offers will also help our libraries to respond to the needs of local communities through our work with partners and community groups.”
Fiona Williams, City of York Council’s head of Libraries and Archives said: “Libraries are working together nationally to enhance the offer to the public and to make it more understandable. Now there is a consistent library offer to people wherever they live. This follows the universal membership offer where you can join any library in England and Wales. There has never been a better time to join your local library.”
