York actor and singer Twinnie Lee Moore, aka Twinnie, has won an award at The British Short Film Awards 2022.

The awards also saw actors like Larry Lamb, Gemma Arterton and Owen Teale nominated.

Twinnie’s winning film, Welcome To The Club, is a visual representation of her EP of the same name, and also stars Doctor Who companion Mandip Gill.

It was nominated in three categories: Best Hair & Makeup, Best Non-Narrative/Experimental Short Film, and Audience Choice Award.

It was revealed both on Instagram and at the awards ceremony last night (Thursday), that Welcome To The Club had won the Audience Choice Award after winning the most votes.

The film, written and directed by Twinnie and produced by Fraser Taylor, shows a young woman’s journey in several therapy sessions following a break up.

Twinnie posted her winning speech on TikTok and said “I’m a music artist and this is my first film, so this is completely new to me.

“Welcome To The Club highlights the importance of mental health and celebrates everyone being authentically themselves.

“This film is created with love and I hope whoever watches it feels that.”

The EP has a total of four songs. Alongside the titular anthem ‘Welcome To The Club’, the tracklist includes ‘One Heart’, ‘Something or Somebody’, and ‘Dying Inside’.

Twinnie, 35, has had a varied career in showbusiness. Starting in musical theatre, she later starred on TV in Hollyoaks as Porsche McQueen.

She released her first EP in 2016, and staged a sold-out tour in 2020. The following year she founded the global music collective I Know A Woman, aiming to standardise mental health therapy across the music industry.
