A woman suffered cuts and bruises to her face after being attacked while walking her dog near her York home.

The incident happened at around 7.45pm on Sunday (November 20) on the cycle track behind Alder Way, New Earswick.

The woman joined the cycle path from Magnolia Grove and turned right.

As she approached some bollards, she felt someone grab her collar from behind, then an impact on the back of her neck which caused her to fall to the ground.

She was unable to get a description of the attacker but saw someone cycling past, onto Alder Way. Nothing was stolen but she suffered cuts and bruises to her face.

Anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area or has any information about the incident is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 12160210384.
