Community hub Door 84 and researchers from York St John celebrated the completion of their collaborative research project last night (Monday).

Entitled ‘Reimagining Door 84’, the researchers worked with Door 84 staff, volunteers, and beneficiaries for the past eight months – to produce a report that is intended to help the Community Centre build a more sustainable future.

The project also aimed to understand what Door 84 means to local people as well as gaining an insight into the services and spaces that local people need.

It saw young people from the youth groups design and carry out their own research projects, with their findings showing the value of the services that Door 84 offers and the need for more Door 84 in the future.

The celebratory event saw the young researchers awarded with certificates for their role in collecting survey responses and conducting interviews.

There was also a special screening of video they produced.

There were board games, again designed and developed by the young people along with members of the research team, to reflect on the collaborative relationship that made the research possible.

This project was funded by the Institute for Social Justice at York St John University’s ‘Community Research Grants’ scheme, which offers annual grants for socially oriented research projects.

Take a look at some pictures of the special celebratory event.
