They’re known as York’s weirdest band – but soon their bonkers blend of psychotic rock’n’roll and pagan doo-wop will be heard no more.

More details

After 17 years of songs about zombies, drink and surfing, the Surf Sluts are to split up.

But you still have one last chance to catch Fez, Snod, Martha, Ian, Phil and Bully as they perform their final gig at York’s Little Festival of Live Music on Saturday (October 1).

Lead singer Fez said: “It was a tough decision, but we all felt it was the right time for the band to finally go to bed.

“It is fitting that our final show will be at the Little Festival of Live Music as it has been something we’ve been very lucky to play each year thanks to Ellen.”

The guys came together when their previous bands, the Suicidal Flowers, God’s Little Monkeys and the Incinerators, disbanded.

Never seen a band like them

With their unconventional approach, high-energy rock, and daft touches, the Surf Sluts attracted a large fan base. They released a number of EPs and were regulars at the Little Festival Of Live Music.

“It is going to be very weird next year without the Surf Sluts, I always thought we would be festivaling together until we reached retirement age,” said festival director Ellen Cole.

“I will however, always be thankful to them for giving our audiences something completely different. I have never seen a band like the Surf Sluts and I don’t think I would ever see another one like them.”

The Surf Sluts will be performing their final gig at 8pm on Saturday. Other acts who will be performing that evening include Jess Gardham, Laura Kindelan and North Lincolnshire folk extravaganza Ramble Gamble.
