Frankly, we don’t think one measly day is enough to celebrate our great county, but it’ll have to do until we stage a coup, make York the new capital and decree that every day is Yorkshire Day.

In the meantime, Lord Mayor Dave Taylor has teamed up with Martin Witts, organiser of the Great Yorkshire Fringe, to ensure the celebrations last all day – and long into the night.

There’s a whole heap of family fun in Parliament Street from 11am-4pm.
The one-day festival features some of the best professional children’s entertainers including Le Petit Artiste, Ukelele Sunshine Revival, Thea Jacob’s Dragon & The Crocodile, Yorkshire’s Got Talent (it certainly has) and characters from Frozen courtesy of Enchanted Parties York.
The good folk of the Great Yorkshire Fringe, which ends on July 31, have offered their White Rose Rotunda for the acts to perform in on August 1.
All money raised will go to the Lord Mayor’s charities: St Nick’s; York Racial Equality Network, York Civic Trust and York LGBT Forum.

Psst… can you keep a secret? No, we thought not, which is why we’re telling you about The Lord Mayor’s Secret Ball, a grown-up evening of music and comedy from 5-11pm.
And if you think the caricature advertising the ball looks familiar, it’s actually our very own Lord Mayor.
Martin commissioned David Hardcastle to recreate his original 1979 cartoon for The Secret Policeman’s Ball, only this time with civic chains and Councillor Taylor’s trademark hair poking through a tricorn hat.
