Your guide to a vintage shopping weekend in York

Wed 30 Sep, 2015 by YorkMix

Beautiful things to be had via a new handmade craft fair, an art market and vintage fun on Fossgate

Looking for a crafty way to shop this weekend? You’re in luck because York has the handmade market sewn up with a new fair, an old favourite and an artistic gallery of gifts.

The Handmade Craft Fair is the latest market to open in York offering artisan homewares and bits and bobs you never knew you needed and now must have at all costs.

It opens its doors for the first time at York Hospitium in Museum Gardens on Sunday October 4 from 11am-4pm.

Its speciality is unique handmade gifts, so expect jewellery, ceramics, homewares, clothing and art.

There will also be drop-in craft workshops, children’s autumn crafts (we’re imagining lots of leaves), Christmas paper crafts, homemade cakes and treats and a gift tree in aid of St Leonard’s Hospice.

There are three whole days of art, design and contemporary craft to enjoy at York Racecourse from October 2-4 courtesy of Art Market York.

Alongside all the amazing, intriguing and surprising work for sale there will be demonstrations, interactive areas, a cafe, live music, a newcomers’ section, living plinth performances, artist talks, workshops and a life-size sculpture of the children’s game Operation, complete with live buzzer.

The Merchant Adventurers’ Hall will be packed to its attractive wooden rafters with a vast array of handpicked vintage on Sunday October 4 from 11am-4.30pm as part of the ongoing series of fairs under the rather snazzy umbrella of York Does Vintage.

Shoppers can take a break from splashing the cash in the vintage tearoom, get glammed up in the beauty bar (everyone from fabulous 20s flappers to bouffant 60s beehivers are welcome) or tap their feet to golden oldies from an Andrew Sisters trio and funky rockabilly bands.

New events this time include a dancing session at 1pm and Ask the Expert, a drop-in valuation service and talk, at 3pm.
