A York school is celebrating after securing a brilliant Ofsted report.

Lord Deramore’s Primary was inspected in June and received the highest judgement grade – Outstanding – in all areas.

This is a rare judgement, with only 6.6% of primary schools having been awarded it since 2019.

The Ofsted report was glowing. It said pupils enjoy coming to school and “experience an exceptional standard of education”.

Other extracts from the report include:

  • Behaviour in lessons and around school is exemplary. Pupils have a thirst for learning
  • The school has created an exciting and ambitious curriculum for all pupils
  • Outcomes for all pupils are exceptionally strong. Pupils produce high-quality work
  • The school supports all pupils, including those who are disadvantaged and those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), very well
  • The school’s programme to develop and ‘nurture learners for life’ is exceptional. Pupils enjoy many wide-ranging activities that support their personal development
  • Leaders build effective relationships at all levels. As a result, families say they feel ‘lucky’ to be part of the school and that their children ‘thrive’.

Headteacher James Rourke said: “We are particularly proud of the fact that 165 of our parents and carers responded to Ofsted’s parent view survey.

“Every single one of them would recommend Lord Deramore’s to other parents and families and all of the comments provided to the inspection team were extremely positive. We are clearly doing something right!”

Last week, the Lord Mayor of York, Cllr Margaret Wells, and Sheriff’s Consort, Geoff Cossins, vsited Lord Deramore’s to publicly congratulate the children and school community for such a significant achievement.
